2 Months ago I logged in and to my surprise, the class blog is gone! Now, out of curiosity, I actually managed to log in.... did it revive by itself or was it my eyes that were playing tricks on me in the first place? Anyway, Hurray!

One important lesson I learnt in my 23 years of experience as a student - Wake up, don't deceive yourself. Two full weeks have passed, which means that 1/2 your June holidays are OVER. Over as in... you'll never be able to get it back, you cannot turn back time.

So my question is - Have you completed at least half your holiday homework?

When I was in PL, I often wait till the last week of holidays to START my homework and I lived a full week of chaos and hectic-ness (is there such a word?). It's something I always tell myself, do not repeat it the next holiday. But come the next holiday and history repeats itself. *Big Sigh*

So I hope my 3D1-nians will not learn such a bad habit from me. Start your work / revision early and have an easy race to the end of the year. Of course, take this long break to do some R and R and I wanna see 30 fresh faces when school reopens alright!

Last year I was going through some rough times. In tears and looking very disheartened, my aunt told me calmly "Girl, why don't you try counting your blessings?". I thought it was ridiculous.

But when there was nothing else I could do, I lied in bed and tried counting... 1... I have my own savings... 2... I have friends who care... 3... I have a decent-looking face that's pretty symmetrical... 4... I cannot change the past, but I can change the future... 5... and the list goes on.

Perhaps life is so hectic that we forget to take some time for ourselves. Breathe. Look at nature, smell the dew in the early morning, hug our loved ones. This March, have you counted your blessings?

Caught this video last year and I think it's meaningful. Girls, count your blessings. You'll feel so much happier! :)

Be it to do what is right, to accept the fact, to admit a mistake, to carry on life with gusto...

I believe everyone has courage. Some probably just need more of it. Sometimes, we find courage in the strangest, most unexpected places.

Like on Teachers' Day 2008. I was sabo-ed by my then form class to do a catwalk on the stage. New and unknown, I was very reluctant. Other teachers around me who were in the same plight as me refused to get up. Then I saw a small group of girls from my class standing up and shouting for me (nope, not the whole class, so it was very courageous on these girls' part) and I thought maybe I could give it a shot.

As much as I begged not to be pulled up, a sweet girl came up and said she'll accompany me. I held on to her for my dear life (super stage fright) and eventually went on stage. She stayed beside me on stage throughout, even though everyone around her were teachers. I heard constant whispers from her that "it's gonna be alright", and ocassionally saying "I better get A1 for POA and Bio ah".

Teachers, are still humans after all. Thank you students for lending me your courage when I needed it. I hope we all find the courage to do that which is right.

How to give constructive feedback...

I was surfing the net and reading up on how we should go about giving constructive feedback. Here's some tips to share:

1) Be gentle, non-threatening - you're providing feedback to help your friend improve, you're not there to tell her what should be right or wrong.

2) Talk about the behaviour / subject, not the person - Feedback is not about insulting. It's about telling your friend how to be better. Therefore you don't say things like "You are wrong." Perhaps saying "you made a mistake" would be more appropriate.

3) Start and end with a compliment - this would encourage your friend to take the feedback more positively instead of it being a criticism.

4) The biggest mistake would be to feel that you can do a better job than she did. This is because if you really felt so, then why didn't you do it? Sometimes, it is impossible to put yourself completely in someone else's shoes.

So the next time we want to criticise, think of it as giving constructive feedback. We all want to become better, not worse. I want to learn to be a better constructive feedback-er. Happy holidays my dear class.

BTW, everyone, including teachers, have feelings :)

Yo yo. Hope everyone had a good break this weekend. I did, but I can foresee tomorrow when I walk into class for contact time with your marksheets, everyone's gonna look so dead again.

Girls, wake up wake up, be energetic while you are still young and can run 2.4km and all that sporty stuff! Tomorrow if you see me walking around the school, remember to greet me "yo yo Miss Han!"

Doh, it's 10.30 now so I guess none of you will chance upon this to respond on time tomorrow morning. HAHA.

Anyways, CLASS OUTING during the March hols? Class T shirt? Any suggestions? Any action taken? :)

Hello! My first post. 3D1 is the best class I have been to. Blog is not updated? But very colourful.. Is it all announcement going to post in the blog? Just passing by to wish all of 3D1 friends SUCCESSFUL in studies.

Frustration is something all of us experience once in awhile. And I am currently feeling not-so-good. Perhaps a pint of chocolate ice cream will do the trick :)

today's rain was a good reminder of how beautiful rain actually is.
oh yes and i woke up horrified by the amount of mozzie bites on my thigh.
ONE thigh in fact. my right one has 21 mozzie bites, same area.
it is quite scary.
then there's one on my left index finger,
i don't know how many on my left leg,
about 5 more all over my arms and body.
it is disturbing. really.

Term 1 is coming to an end and here are some memorable events!

CNY banner-painting. Well in every class activity, it is quite impossible to really have the WHOLE class participating but we're glad that most of us were able to contribute in one way or another - Making ang bao lanterns, researching the chun lian (Chinese Idioms izit?), printing the chinese characters, cutting up the stencils, sketching the picture and painting it eventually. Our hard work finally paid off and WALA! We won! Err... what was the prize?

Hello readers! Welcome to our blog.

First entries are always the hardest to write. If well-written and memorable, it attracts more readers and motivates more writing. On the other hand, if boring and uninterestng, or as what Simon would say in American Idol "Forgettable", could just make the blog a dormant one.

Well, this is a class blog, hence as a teacher, I try to take minimum ownership in it. Perhaps just a few Dos and Don'ts. Hee Hee!

Dos:
- Write your thoughts when you feel like it. Daily rants and raves are sometimes very entertaining to read!

- Encourage each other and remind each other when tests and assignments are due.

- Make class announcements if it wasn't clear in school.

- Organise gatherings, study sessions etc. and get others to contribute here.

- Keep the blog neat by posting resized pictures.

Don'ts
- Neglect each others' feelings. Be mindful and sensitive about what you say or comment.

- Use inappropriate words that any decent teacher would disapprove of. Ha!
